Pike Center awards one small grant
Through its Small Grants Program, the Pike Center sponsors research and publication that address issues faced by language communities on the margins of society. We are pleased to announce that one grant has been awarded in the latest cycle of this program.
$1,900 has been awarded to Rod Casali for a project entitled “Completion of Mike Cahill labial-velar book project.” Mike Cahill, a leading expert in labial-velar consonants, had been diligently working on a book that was intended to be a comprehensive magnum opus, encapsulating the accumulated findings of his extensive typological research over the years. Tragically, Mike’s untimely passing has necessitated the involvement of another individual to edit and complete the book. Rod Casali, who possesses expertise in labial-velar consonants and familiarity with Mike’s work, will collaborate with a research assistant to conduct comprehensive library and internet research. Subsequently, he will assume the role of book editor to ensure the book’s successful publication. The objective is to make this valuable information accessible to the linguistic community through the book’s release, thereby serving as a valuable academic service that reflects positively on SIL.
